My sectional couch is finally scheduled to be delivered on 2/19!!!! That is the same day I am taking my mom to the opera. So it all works out because we can hang all day at my condo and just head out to the city from my place. I still have yet to install curtain rods in my room so maybe I can use her help then. I've been putting it off because I need a tall ladder to reach the tall ceiling in my room.
I have been waiting a long time to get my property finished properly, but with an on-going, aggravating battle between the owners and the builder who's got a Napoleon complex along with many other nasty issues, I have used up all my patience and am now determined to just move ahead and decorate my place rather than waiting for this lunatic Napolen to admit his mistakes and make our lives more comfortable. It has taken me almost a year to find the couch that I ordered last month, and the order itself took more than a month! Anyway, it isn't what I was initally looking for- I wanted a buttery light brownish-grey (I love in-between, muted colors- they are the best to match with anything) leather couch that has a bohemian style with a twist of contemporary feel to it. I also wanted to see some curvature with nailheads, but it was going to be almost impossible to find something like that unless I worked with a custom furniture specialist, and I definitely did not want to shell out close to 10k for just a couch! Anyway, I visit Jayson Home and Garden in Lincoln Park from time to time because they carry my favorite Oly pieces (although this store has many collections, I still miss Liberty in Kirkland, WA where I used to live. I wanted to buy the whole store!!!), and this couch happened to be on sale!
My story does not end here though. The first time I saw it, I hesitated as I spotted another couch that came a little close to the style I wanted, but was the wrong color- dark brown!!! Yuck! Plus, it was too boxy, not comfortable at all, and one side of the couch was not quite perpendicular to the floor and was definitely crooked (yes, you all know I am anally picky). So I waited one or two weeks more until I went back with a friend and was confirmed by her that the sectional one is more comfy, and although not a leather couch, it has more warmth to it and more suitable for the style of my condo. The color is nice and it's got nailheads, too!!! Yuppeeee!!!! Right at the moment I decided to take it home with me and was speaking to the store manager, another sales person stepped in and whispered something in the manager's ear. The story is that there was another customer interested and wanted to call back to confirm her purchase. Since it was the only one in stock, I was told that depending on the other customer's decision, I would either get the one on the floor in case she is not interested or a brand new one at the sale price if she chose to purchase. So I waited and waited with my friend... and finally the other customer called back to confirm her purchase, so there it is- I am getting a brand new one, with free delivery, but would take 6-8 weeks. I really did not mind that as I have been waiting almost a year to find a couch for my place. So you see why and how I am excited to add this couch to my collection and can't wait to see it in my living room.
Now, my next project is to strip-sand my antique dining set and paint it dark brown or black and re-upholster the seats with brown-white mohair if I can ever find the material. I have been meaning to visit some special fabric stores, but I haven't found much yet so far. Then another project in process is for my bedroom and the guestroom. I stil need a bed frame although my bed now does not look too bad as it is illusioned (is that even a word, well it is in my dictionary!) by a nice duvette set. I recently placed an order for the mathing euro shams. So to give you an update on my guest room, which will also be my entertainment/meditation room, I plan to get a sofa bed. I don't typically get overnight guests and don't really need to crowd the room with a bed. So you see, I am still in search for several more things and I am taking it easy... very easy. Like I always am, I will not settle for anything else, so until I find the right pieces, I will not spend $$$ on something I will regret later on.
Anyway, I am, so far, loving my day off. There's a crap load of stuff to take care of and errands to run, but I will take it easy. I was looking forward to shoveling snow today, but it's the thin, light kind and does not need to be shoveled at all. Better get ready for the day and start taking care of my world today. I am definitely going to sit in the steam sauna at the gym today and just ohm~~~

frozen spirit
Today was rather a long, annoying Monday. If I could just focus on what I like to do minus the paperwork, the dreading administrative work, etc. at work, I will be just peachy every day. I've realized that as this winter in Chi-town has been demonstrating unforgiving forces of nature and froze our brains off, so did the spirits of the mankind in this town. I was saddend for most of today at work to realize that I am living in the same world as these frozen spirits and thought of ways to make a difference... but how and where do I start? Hmmmm.....

a deceiving day...
The bright sunshine this morning had woke me up early and it was pleasant to feel such warmth despite the early hour. Little did I know that the temperature outside is single digit. Yikes! Then I remembered what my last patient on Friday told me- that it will be subzero on Sunday. My goodness.... When will this freezing season be over? I can't wait till I can hit the beach and just lay mindlessly under the sun. I seriously long for the sizzling hot summer. Come on, summer!
